Update 7/22/2010: I just noticed a brain fart on page 18 -- it should be "living" instead of "leaving"...I updated the page and reposted the file under the same name.
Update 4/29/2010: A few minor bug-a-boos have been cleaned up. The file has the same name and should now be the latest.
---------------------------------
All right! It's finished! This chapter of Ouran is action packed, humorous, and sweet.

And now the long wait until July to find out what happens next and maybe to find out how many chapters are left.
Next up is "Orange Chocolate" chapter 10. It should be out in 4 to 5-days

Ouran High School Host Club Chapter 78 Final Version
There were a lot more errors in my translation than I expected :(. Fortunately, though, Natirein did a complete translation too. This final translation is a my original translation cleaned up using Natirein's translation as a reference. All hail the greatness of Natirein!!! I really am grateful she joined the team! Anyhow...here's Ouran 78.

"Orange Chocolate" Chapter 1 is up next. The Japanese in that series is no where near as complicated as Ouran fortunately, though, I did get some help with some of the slang :) ETA Friday or Saturday.

Ouran Chp 78 Translation
Thanks to Natirein, page 26 is fixed!!! Drastic changes were made and hopefully, this part of the chapter makes a lot more sense. Beyond the changes made to page 26, I don't expect there to be any more "drastic" changes to the current translation. Regardless, we are currently checking the rest of the translation and, hopefully, we will release the final edit early next week.
Because this is not the final edit, I ask that you refrain from uploaded this file to any of the manga aggregator sites. I will upload the file myself, when I think I'm ready too. I expect the final version of this translation to be ready early next week. But until then:

We're still working out the new translation quality check process ;p. Hopefully, next time it will go more smoothly :).
And, for those of you tired of the drama, I feel your pain...

Ouran Chp 76 Translation
Update (11/29/2009): Prompted by a comment on Mangafox, I took another look at the original Japanese on pg 27. I originally translated Tamaki's intent as him wanting to understand his grandmother. However, after consulting a grammar reference, I see it's the other way around. He wants to be acknowledged by his grandmother so she can understand his point of view. Consequently, I have re-translated page 27 and updated the file to version 1. Sorry for the error, but I'm grateful to have had it pointed out :). It helps a lot to improves my skills.
------------------------------------------------------
I'm sorry to report the thunderstorm romance was not meant to be. But it's all right because this chapter shows just how wonderful Haruhi is. Anyhow, this was a very difficult chapter to translate, and I'm sure I got a thing or two wrong, but I hope I captured the spirit of events. Here's version 0. If the proofreaders find any errors, there will be a version 1 tomorrow or Tuesday.

Update -12/25/2009: Corrected the spelling of one of the dogs Bunshichi --> Punshichi
Enjoy! I will finish up Arakure Chp 55 hopefully by the end of the day tomorrow or Tuesday.

Ouran Chp 75 Translation
Hooray for Sapphire Pyro and Narmeen! They did the proofreading while I was asleep last night, so the scanlation is ready :)!

This chapter is very important, but at the same time, it's a bummer because it ends on such a low note. However, I believe the situation is set for a hug or a kiss in the next chapter...heheheh...I'll write more about what clues I see in few days after enough people read the chapter.
FYI: Chp 76 will be out in Japanese around November 24th.

Ouran 74 Translation
Here it is, Ouran High School Host Club chp 74. This time I worked really hard to smooth out the English, so hopefully it's less confusing than chp 73.

As usual please do not upload this to any of the manga aggregator sites without my permission. Those sites that have my permission (and you know who you are), may upload at your convenience. Otherwise, feel free to share the link to this blog entry. Also as usual, if you find any errors in the translation or the scanlation, please send a kind little e-mail or leave a comment and I will address it.
I will wait a couple of days for people to read the chapter and then I will say my peace/piece about the recent events in a blog entry.

Ouran 73 - Done
7/27: I finished translating the chapter. I found some translation errors in the stuff I've already translated, which I'm now in the process of correcting :) (Don't worry the corrections don't impact the story). Yay! I'm learning! Anyway, if all goes well, I will post the entire chapter tomorrow.
Spoiler: The pesky one isn't Tamaki's grandmother, as we all expected, rather it's Tamaki's father (it seems that he is the true head of the family whether the grandmother accepts it or not) ... though, I imagine in the chapters coming Tamaki's grandmother is going to be a tough nut to crack. Knowing that Tamaki's father is behind this all, makes me feel that nothing bad will happen to Tamaki or Haruhi or Tamaki x Haruhi. Tamaki just has to go through some trials to win over his grandmother. Then it's a matter of him and Haruhi getting their act together.
------------------------------
Link to the Chp 73 (updated night of 7/28 with latest corrections and clarifications)*
Note: I took a little creative liberty with the term "Bump into Kiss" because the Japanese has it written in some messed up English as "Happening Kiss." That makes no sense so I went with another phrase. I was debating whether to call it a "Meet Cute," but then decided that "Bump into Kiss" was more fitting.
-----------------
As always, if any of you catch a translation error, please be so kind as to send me a kind e-mail and I'll fix it right away. I updated the file to include everything I've translated so far. Again, remember, this is about an 80% translation, but hopefully, I've managed to capture spirit of things so we all can know what's going on with story in real-time until Viz publishes the English version. Also, I believe this is good practice, so hopefully, my translations will improve as I continue to grind away.

More Ouran Chp 71
Ouran Chp 71 is giving me fits!!!! Anyhow, I managed to "decipher" 7 more pages tonight.
Where I last left off, Haruhi was talking sensibly about how Hani and Mori should be concerning themselves with preparing to enter the university. As she and Kyoya speak, Hani and Mori are having a great time on a sofa enjoying the club activities. Hani is cheerful, as usual, and Mori is expressionless. Haruhi says to Kyoya, "My mistake. No matter how I look at it they seem immersed in having fun." Above Hani and Mori's heads it reads, "Worries about retiring from the club: ZERO" Kyoya responses, "It doesn't seem like they're prepared."
A shy girl approaches Mori and says, " Mori, ..., um you're leaving the club so we'll not meet, but ... how can you be so cheery?" Mori takes some time to consider and then says, "... aaa ... Oh, I see. It's like eventhough the majority of people will be progressing to the same university, we will be in different departments. Come to think about it, we'll not be able to meet." Mori is rattled for some reason and drops his cup (though he still looks expressionless).
Haruhi and Kyoya are still looking in on Hani and Mori. Now the twins have just joined. Kaoru asks whether Mori is ok. Kyoya answers that Mori is tired because he's at his limit from being rushed with martial arts and fist fight challenges from underclassmen. The twins follow up with an inquiry about Hani. Kyoya smartly answers, "In Hani-sempai's case, discretion is the reason he has freetime." Haruhi then asks Mori what he intends to do. Enter Nekozawa who asks what department Hani and Mori will be in. Hani enthusiastically announces that he's going into engineering (go Engineering!!! Nevermind that engineering sucks the life out of students. They truly never will see each other in college, says this engineering grad) because he loves to make stuff. His goal is make cars and toys to start Haninozuka Racing and a Haninozuka Toy factory. Everyone, of course, is very surprised -- who knew? Haruhi then asks Mori whether he's going into engineering too. Mori says he's going into law. Everyone is shocked. Hani says to Mori, "Really? then we'll by in different departments in April." Double take, huh?!!! The Mori-Hani Combo is breaking up!!!?? Really!!!?
Later ... Mori is taking on challengers at the kendo club. He easily beats a second year. Haruhi hears Mori's voice and she, the twins, Kyoya, and Tama come to see what's going on. Hikaru asks where Hani is. Kyoya tells him that Hani couldn't wait so he's in the dining hall eating cake. The twins observe the situation and see that Mori has a long line of challengers to fight against and decide that Hani had a point. Meanwhile Tama is blubbering again. "Soon this kendo club will not see Mori-sempai's gallant figure, " he says though his tears. Hikaru asks Tama how long he intends to cry. Tama says he can't help crying because it's sad. He's sad because Hani and Mori are graduating and even sadder because when they graduate, Hani and Mori will be separated. (Imagine the trauma Tama will suffer if his grandma forces Haruhi out of Ouran ... I sense that Tama will snap and become a man over that.) The twin confirm they too are surprised by the separation, but they think Hani and Mori are fine with it ... until they observe the situation again. Now Mori is beating the crap out of some poor kid with his kendo practice sword. "Maybe not?" they conclude. In walks Chika and Satoshi, Hani and Mori's little brothers. Satoshi confirms that Mori is not fine with the situation ... to be continued ...

Still working on Ouran 71, But what's going on so Far
I'm getting slowed down by a class project, sorry. I translated 2 more pages last night. The story is set around Mori and Hani's last host club day before they graduate. Basically Tamaki is taking Mori and Hani's graduation badly and is a blubbering crying mess. Haruhi isn't affected by their graduation because she knows she can still stay in connection with them. (Kyouya isn't showing any emotion either and coolly accepts that the club isn't going to make any $$$ this day.) Haruhi is, though, affected by Tamaki's tears and she tries to touch him to console him. So far her attempts have been unwittingly thwarted by various minor characters. After each attempt Haruhi looks at her hand like it's out of control.
More to come ...
More to come ...

Zettai Heiwa Daisakusen to Ouran Comparisons
I been browsing the ZHD forums lately and I got a couple of comments about the ZHD Kiss fan art I did and apparently there are some that think ZHD is like "Ouran". I've felt this way too while translating the manga. Obviously, Yuda and Haruhi look almost identical and have very similar reactions to the realization of their feelings. In many ways I feel that Yuda and Haruhi are the same character, but cast in a different universe. With respect to the Johanne and Tamaki, they too share looks and they both have delusional thoughts about their desired women wearing a cute sundress and a hat. I think, though, that is as far as it goes. Johanne is straight forward with his feelings and is a shrewd, kick-ass battle hardened killer whereas Tamaki is 100% "lover" and 0% "fighter", as well as a buffoon (well ... given that kidnapping episode, it's possible that Tamaki could go ape-sh** crazy if anything were to happen to Haruhi or any of his friends (BTW: that would be AWESOME) -- still, it doesn't seem to take much to make Johanne tear through some baddies). Clearly, Johanne is more mature than Tamaki, but strangely, I think I like both Johanne and Tamaki about the same. They are both great characters and I care very much about what happens to them.
