My Manga Purchases for May 2012

Here's what I bought manga-wise this month.

English Language
  • "Oresama Teacher" Volume 8
Japaneses Language
  • "Magnolia" Volume 4 + Drama CD
  • "Tempest" Volumes 1 & 2 by Aniya Yuiji
  • "Hebi to Maria to Otsuki-sama" by Uno Sanae
  • "Unknown" by Shiwase Yuki
  • "Joosama and the White Rabbit" Volume 2 by Oto Hisamu
  • "Paradise Pirates" by Yamaguchi Miyuki (Avoid this one! It's stupidly cliqued.)
  • "Sakura no Himegoto" Volume 1
  • "Wannin" Volume 1 & 2
  • "Hachimatsu to Batafurai"
  • "Kanojo no Namida ga Yuki dato Shitara"
  • "Ramune Bannouyaku" by Matsuzuki Kou
Electronic English Language
  • Nura Volume 8
  • Blue Exorcist Volume 7
I haven't gotten through all the stuff in Japanese yet, by I can tell you that I didn't like Paradise Pirates and I could only get through the first chapter before I had to put it down.  It's like an old-timey Disney Princess ended up on a jolly pirate ship.  Yuck!

Omari's Sister is Recruiting!

Omari's Sister Needs You!
We need new blood!  Omari's Sister is recruiting!  We need additional staff to maintain pace after June.  Here's what we need.
  • Cleaners/Redraw Artists/Image Editors -- I would prefer experienced volunteers, but if you have access to Photoshop and some experience using it, I'm willing to train you.  People with experience clone stamping and redrawing are most desired.  The minimum time expectation is one project per month.
If you are interested in volunteering for Omari's Sister, please send me an e-mail via the "Contact" link at the top of this blog.

People who are new to cleaning, consult this tutorial first to make sure you are familiar enough with Photoshop:

"Magnolia" Chp 22

Update:  If you are having problems viewing this file, please upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader (version 8 or above).  Just this once, I have re-crunched the file so it is compatible with version 6 and above.  If you are using some other PDF reader, all bets are off moving forward. This is the last time I will crunch a file to be viewed by an ancient version of Acrobat.

This seems like a bridge chapter to the next story arc.  Not much new is revealed in this chapter, but it's necessary to cement some of the ideas introduced in the last chapter.  The end of the chapter, though is pretty significant.  The question for me is whether what happened means that Ayato has accepted matters and has decided to be pro-active.  And what about Hugo? I'm gonna be so mad if he rips Ayato's heart out. Well, we'll know his initial reaction in a week or so.

Anyhow...onto the link!

The Ghost Apartment Manager Chapter 9

It's been about 6 months since we released the last chapter of this series.  I think it just got lost in the shuffle.  This is actually one of the easier series to translate and clean, so there really is no excuse other than it slipped through the cracks. We should have chapter 10 ready in July soon after our month long anniversary celebration :).

In this chapter we begin to explore Crook's past.  He's as emo as he looks and it's pretty sad.  I don't want to say too much about this chapter because it's a good read.

On to the chapter!

Thank you Silver Lunar!!!

Thank you Silver Lunar!!!  I love it :)!

Silver Lunar made the wonderful avatar I'm now using for Twitter. I was only gonna do a short-term change from the Kuroneko, but I like the pink fox so much that it's here to stay for the time being :).

BTW, I did have my fill of cheddar biscuits at the local Red Lobster tonight.  They were delicious!

"Rex Fabula" Chapter 6

If you haven't read this series, then I hope you give it try because it's one of my favorite Shounen-for-girls series.  The first 4 chapters are here and chapter 5 is here.

There are no crazy monsters in this chapter. Actually, there is much more dialog than there has been in the other chapters so far.  It's kinda of a nice break, but at the same time it's the setup for the first real arc in the story. The next chapter introduces a bunch of new characters, so get ready for it.

This chapter introduces Kurumizawa Kotoko as a love interest for Homare,   I won't say much about her accept that she's surprising and I like her a lot :).  I'm very eager to see how this romance plays out, though I imagine it's going to be very, very, slow.  Still, I think Kurumizawa will be a great moderating force to keep Homare from going out of control.

And now onto the link!

"Rex Fabula" Chapter 5

This is our first Omari's Sister release of "Rex Fabula"!  A little warning about this chapter: the monsters in this series run around naked and have human breasts. It's a weird artist choice, but I didn't think it was indecent because there is nothing sexual about them.  It's distracting at first, but you'll get used it.

This chapter is pretty intense psychologically and action-wise.  We get to see Hamare in action as he figures out what his weapon is and how to use it. Though, by the end chapter, I couldn't really say what his weapon was, but it's quite effective.  I'd like to hear some reader's ideas on what went on with the "weapon". I don't think that it will be clear until we see Homare use it again. Haha! You'll see what I mean after you read the chapter.  It reminds me of what Rose did in the last episode of the first season of "Doctor Who".

Manga I'm Looking Forward to! "Sakuran: Blossoms Wild"

Here's a title coming from Vertical on July 17th that I'm very much looking forward to.  It's from Moyocco Anno, the same mangaka who wrote/illustrated "Sugar Sugar Rune", but "Sukuran" is a mature title.  Anyhow, since reading series like "Yukarism" and "Oiran Girl", I'd like to see another interpretation of the Japanese courtesan world.  Here's a link to the synopsis (Link)

This book is available for pre-order through Amazon and there's currently a nice little discount.  Here's a link to pre-order through Amazon.

"Fushigi no Maria-kun" Chapter 5

We are now on the second volume of "Fushigi no Maria-kun"!  There are nine chapters total in this series. Hopefully we'll be able to finish it before the end of the year.  Haha! This is truly a challenging series. The redraws, translation, and typesetting are all horrendous.  But I think it's worth it. This story is very heartwarming and Shiina Dai's dialog is always a treat to translate.

I wish it could have released this chapter in April since it's a story about cherry blossom viewing.  My favorite part of this chapter is the conversation between Maria and Toko's father.  Toko's father, in general, is quite entertaining.  I can't quite figure out the dynamic between him and Maria's mother. In the Japanese it kinda reads vaguely like flirting...but why would he do that in front of his wife??? Haha, maybe I'm reading stuff into it that wasn't intended.

Anyhow, here's the link to the chapter:

"Rex Fabula" Chapters 1 - 4

"Rex Fabula" is moving to Omari's Sister.  This series is more on the shounen side, but starting in chapter 6 some shoujo elements start showing up.  This series is a nice combination of horror, action, and mystery with a sprinkling of unrequited love.  The main character, Homare, is one of my favorites, so I hope this series finds a happy home here.  I also hope there's lots of conversation around this series.  It's a truly interesting series.  Here are links to the first 4 chapters:

"Seigi no Mikata" Chapters 1 and 2

I've decided to move the foul-mouthed Cherry Blossom Warrior over to Omari's Sister.  I will not be toning down any of the language, but I will add a warning to each release that there is foul language.

Here are links to the first two chapters!

I'm Thinking of Merging Bakeneko's Lair back into Omari's Sister

I created Bakeneko's Lair so we could keep some of the more mature and shounen titles away from Omari's Sister.  As a few people warned me, it is a bit more difficult to run two separate blogs.  My feeling so far is the only series I want to keep separate from Omari's Sister is "Servamp" because at times it is quite violent and gory.  "Kemono Kingdom: Zoo" is quite low key, "Seigi no Mikata" has some cussing and innuendo that will fly over the heads of the inexperienced, and "Rex Fabula" doesn't have anything more gory in it than some of the Kuro Lala one-shots, though one of the monsters has a "nice rack".  I'm thinking of moving these three series to Omari's Sister and leaving "Servamp" at Bakeneko's Lair to keep it separate and also to reserve the alternate blog for some mature series  (straight up 16+) from Itan magazine I've had my eye on.

I'd appreciate it if you'd give me your opinion on the matter.  If there aren't too many objections, then the migration could begin today.

"Akagami no Shirayukihime" Chapter 33

First of all, a little bit of business.  Viz's Shojo Beat is accepting licensing suggestions on Twitter.  AnS came up quite a few times.  I would love it if the momentum were stepped up so this series can't be ignored and Akidzuki Sorata can get some money from us (more than just the fraction of us who buy the tankoubon).  So if you don't mind, please Tweet to @Shojobeat about AnS.  Let's make a big push to get this series licensed!

I did what I could with this chapter in terms of image editing.  The pages look okay until page 17 and then after that there was simply not enough data to salvage the images.  As a consequence the pages are very grainy and there are some bare patches.  It's a shame too because I get the feeling that the last few pages are actually quite beautiful.  I guess I and whoever buys the volume 8 tankoubon will get to see the chapter as it was meant to be.  Fortunately, chapter 34 was printed in the nice section of Lala, so that chapter will be high quality.

This chapter begins a new arch in the story.  Looking at chapter 34, perhaps now we'll get to Shirayuki interact with Izana.  I know there are some of us who like the idea of Izana x Shirayuki (me included), but I get the feeling that Akidzuki wouldn't even toy with that notion.  My guess is that Izana, Shirayuki, and Ryuu will have some sort of adventure that will result in Izana personally acknowledging Shirayuki. ...But we shall see.  Maybe we're in for a surprise^^.

We aren't interested in it and Aya Shouoto has asked scanlators to quit scanlating her works.  We intend to respect the mangaka's stated wishes.

Anyhow...May is here and there are a lot of releases that are close to being done. Hopefully, we can make up for a craptacular April.
