We Need Immediate Help with Redraws

We need immediate help with redraws so we can release chapters of "Sabaku no Harem" and Sleepless King. If you can help this week, even it's only a few pages, that would help us tremendously.

I'm Back! (and Recruitment)

I'm back from the sticks! My grandmother's spirits were greatly lifted by our visit, so I'm glad I went. I read a few first volume of some shoujo manga series, so look out for some reviews on the Lovely Manga Blog.  I talked with key Crimson Flower members about picking up some new series. And it looks like from the survey, readers want us to continue "Sabaku no Harem", so we will as long as it stays a Lala DX series (there will be another special chapter in Lala next month.) Needless to say, I missed blogging, I missed translating, and I missed Photoshopping. I'm pumped! And I am ready to hobby my ass off!

We need help at Crimson Flower to finish off some series and start new ones.  Our greatest areas of need are typesetting and redrawing. If you have experience doing either of these and can spare some time, even on a temporary basis, please contact me, Kuroneko003 via the link in the upper right hand corner of this blog. Also, please see our recruitment page for description of all positions.

We will announce new series as we become able to work on them.

Kuroneko003 is taking a Break until December 8th

The holidays are swamping me, so I'm gonna have to officially take a break from CF until December 8th. I will be cooking Thanksgiving dinner this year and my husband and I are going to take care of some household projects and take some little trips for the next two weeks. CF will start releasing again mid-December.

Crimson Flower's Plans for 2014

Now that we've said what we aren't going to do, let's get on to what we are going to do.  We are only adding one new monthly series.  Everything else added will be bi-monthly or quarterly. We are limiting the number of monthly series so we can do more oneshots and short series.  So here it goes:

Monthly Series
  • "Baraou no Souretsu"
  • "Kisu ni Renzoku"
  • "P + JK" The difficulty of scanlating this series outweighs the goodness. Hopefully since it's popular in Japan it'll get licensed here. It's very tame in terms of age-gap series, so I don't see why it couldn't be licensed. I will though write up summaries as I read for leisure. It is a really cute series.
  • "Magical Change"
  • "Yuurei Apaato Kanrinin"
Bi-Monthly Series
  • "Kanojo ni Naru Hi -- Another"
  • "Yukarism" (it will become monthly if the series becomes released more regularly)
Quarterly Series
  • "Lip Smoke"
  • "Joousama no Jikenbou" (Akane Ogura)
  • "Petite Peche" (Bisco Hatori)
Twice a Year
  • "Ao no Souyoku"
 Short Series (already in progress)
  • "Megane no Incubus-kun" -- Translated and Cleaned, redraws and typesetting in progress
  • "Hanaibara" -- Cleaned, awaiting translation
  • "Kiniiro no Kishi" -- Cleaned, awaiting translation
  • TBD
There are several other short series under consideration. We will announce them when we start to work on them.

We will be pulling oneshots from:
  • Aka Lala
  • Shiro Lala 2012
  • Ao Lala
  • The Hana to Yume
  • Lala Fantasy
  • Ane Lala
  • Bunkei Shoujo

2014 Plans at Crimson Flower -- We Are Dropping Some Series

I don't like to drop series, but I feel I should announce what we are formally dropping to give the team and the readers some clarity and closure. We do not drop series lightly. I usually agonize for months before dropping a series.  We are dropping these series mainly because there isn't enough momentum within the group to keep the series going and there is a strong desire within the group to do more oneshots and one volume series, and therefore I need to free up the schedule.

We are dropping:
  • "Ore to Atashi no Kareshi-sama" -- We are dropping this series immediately. The way this series ends killed it for me. Also the redraws are ridiculous.
  • "Pochamani" -- We will complete chapters 10 and 11 ASAP and then stop work on this series. Chapter 11 feels like the natural end of the story. Beyond chapter 11 goes off the rails and into endless shoujo territory.
  • "Nanatsu no Kururi"  -- We are dropping this series immediately. There is not enough momentum in the group to keep this going. (Honestly, I only wanted to do Chapters 1 and 2 as  oneshots. The actual series isn't my cup of tea.)
  • "Kerberos in the Silver Rain" -- We are dropping this series immediately. Again, not enough momentum in the group to keep this going. I will continue reading this for my own pleasure.
We having no plans to pass these series onto other groups, nor will we be facilitating any transfers. Groups that want to pick up these series should support the mangaka by purchasing the series.

We have no immediate plans to pick up any series soon. Rather we will focus on finishing up "Magnolia", "Pochamani" Chps 10 & 11, "Rex Fabula", "Yukarism", "Kisu ni Renzoku", "Magical Change", and "The Ghost Apartment Manager" along with our regular ongoing series.

News: Links to Scanlators Websites Removed from Manga Updates

Update:  Fix on Github (Install Greasemonkey to fix Firefox) -- LINK

Manga Updates has removed links to scanlator websites from their listings.  Here's a link to the explanation: Link

It is not clear who made the request and I don't understand how one entity can claim copyright over the entirety of mangadom.  I have my suspicions, but I'll keep quiet on it. For me it comes down to considering who benefits from the link removal.  Still, I don't think this will make much difference, since the lazy leechers already go to manga aggregators (cough) exclusively, and those who want to go to the scanlator's website already are and have set up bookmarks and feeds accordingly.

Fortunately, Manga Updates retains the links to groups' Twitter feeds and Facebook, so in our case, readers will have more direct access to the release posts through Twitter. In light of this, instead of Tweeting the Tumblr posts, I'll now Tweet the link to the release.  We will continue not having a Facebook presence.

Here are other ways you can keep up to date with our releases:

  • Crimson Flower's RSS Feed (LINK)
  • You can join the Crimson Flowers site using the "Join this site" link in the right column.
  • You receive email update for Bakeneko's Lair by subscribing on the website (LINK)
  • Bakeneko's Lair RSS (LINK)
  • Twitter: @CrimsonFlowerRe, @Bakenekos_Lair
  • Release Only Tumblr (LINK), Kuroneko003's Tumblr (LINK)
I'll format the Release Only Tumblr today, and start posting notifications there with the next release. I am also added project pages to this Tumblr page.

Hopefully this will not be too much of an inconvenience. And please, join us in one of the alternative routes like Twitter and Tumblr.

Retranslation -- We are not accepting any new translation partners for a few months. I, Kuroneko003, am currently overwhelmed and cannot handle the flood of requests while continuing to manage and work on projects for CF. We will continue working with our regular Spanish, French, Italian, Vietnamese, and Portuguese partners, though.

Oneshots -- Our theme continues to be horror and psychological. There will be a few other surprises too!

Planning for 2014 -- Thanks for your Input

Thanks to everyone who gave us feedback through the survey and especially to those who took the time to write thoughtful comments.  We understand that the readers of this blog want more josei, while not neglecting shoujo. We understand that you come to this blog to read something different than the typical middle school and high school shoujos.  And we got the message loud and clear that you like oneshots and short series.

First of all, we still have some typical shoujos in the pipeline.  We will complete these projects and then move on. These projects include:

  • "Ore to Atashi no Kareshisama" (7 more chapters to complete)
  • "Megane no Incubus-kun" (3-chapter short series)
  • "Aoi Tsumeato" (oneshot)
  • "Funjunbatsu" (oneshot)
After chapter 11 of "Pochamani" we will be putting the series on hiatus. This series started as a oneshot that was expanded to 3 chapters, that was expanded to a volume, and then to a never-ending shoujo. I keep up with series, so I know what happens. After chapter 11, the story starts to jump the shark -- including some biker dude and another heavy girl who wants to become Tsumugi's disciple. I think from our perspective, we don't want to take on never-ending series unless they are interesting and appeared to be planned.  I would like to take a wait-and-see period to see where the series is going and to see whether the series is truly going to be never-ending (This is a danger when taking on series from Hana to Yume). We will make a clear announcement if we decided to drop the series.

We are still working on other series that have ended in Japan.  We are currently doing periodic mass releases of "Rex Fabula".  After we finish that, we will move onto to finishing "Ore to Atashi no Kareshisama" and "Yuurei Apaato Kanrinin". The next batch of "Rex Fabula" will come out next month, and we'll release a chapter of OtoA and YAK each too. Thanks to everyone helping us with Rex. This series has tough redraws so it's been slow.  The same applies to OtoA, so we apologize for our pace.  YAK...>_>  (subconsciously I don't want that series to end... it's not particularly difficult to release.) We will also clear out all the oneshots and short series that are in some state of completion regardless of theme.  Haha! We've got a lot of them!

Okay... onto new stuff. Three new series will be debuting very soon. One is a series I've been waiting for to release in tankoubon form for nearly a year.  It's by an mangaka that's near and dear to my heart (and you readers too), so look out for it soon.  The next series smacked in the face hard with gloriousness.  We're nearly done with the first chapter, so look out for it next week. And the lastly the sequel to "Kanojo ni Naru Hi". We are continuing one with the other new series we've introduced.  The series from Haruca and Itan are on a very slow release schedule in Japan (once every 2 - 6 months).  We have no influence over that...so...oh well. But this give us a lot flexibility in our schedule to take on many projects from these publications.  Also! We are working on a variety of short-series (1 volume) and oneshots.  I, Kuroneko003, am personally now working 50% on series and 50% on short-series and oneshots. Typesetters willing, a flood of oneshots is coming soon as we complete a bunch of already translated works.  Please check the release schedule to see what we're up to! I'm looking forward to launching the new series.  Most of what we've got going on now series-wise will fill out 2014. We will take up new short series as we finish short series.

Current and Upcoming Themes!
  • November - mid-December: Supernatural, Horror, and Pyschological
  • December - February:  Fairytales

Please feel free to give us some more feedback on what you would like to see in 2014.  Please no specific series though. We aren't taking specific requests, but do give us some theme ideas. Also, Pochamani fans, please be gentle with me.

We need typesetters and redraw artists, so if you want more faster releases, please volunteer to help us. Contact me using the contact link at the top in the right side column if you are interested.

Planning for 2014 -- Your Feedback is Wanted

NOTE:  WE AREN'T DROPPING ANY SERIES. WE ARE DILIGENTLY WORKING ON UNFINISHED SERIES. THEY WILL GET DONE.

2013 is winding down, so it's time to start planning for 2014! This year we started making an effort to only take on short series and more oneshots. This summer we started exploring josei. We will continue the transition to short series and more oneshots in 2014.

As a translator, I've found working on long-form oneshots to be very fulfilling. The stories are focused, deep, and have a definite arc, and an end. Not many long-form oneshots are published, so pickings are slim.  Also, they tend to take a long time to scanlate. Nevertheless, I would like to do more of them, so I'm keeping an eye out for them.

To help me refine the direction of next year, I'm want to gather suggestions from the readers of this blog. And I don't mean to suggest specific works, because I don't want to narrow things down that much. What would you like to see more of? What would you like to see less of? What have you really liked from 2013? What didn't you like?  What aren't other scanlation groups doing? What are other scanlation groups doing too much of?  Would you like more non-scanlation content -- reviews, general discussions, news... ? Or you comment about whatever you like manga-wise.  Anyhow, I want to keep things fresh and I don't want us to be like any other shoujo or josei scanlation group.  So please suggest any themes, subgenres, mangaka, or whatever you're interested in. Also, there's a handy dandy poll at the top of the right column.

Welcome to Crimson Flower!

Update:  For those of you who subscribe to our RSS feed, the new URL is: http://feeds.feedburner.com/CrimsonFlower--

The Subscribe to RSS Links have also been updated! Please let me know if it's not working for you.
--------------------------------------
I'm sorry for the abrupt change.  Omari's Sister has always been a joke between me and my brother.  The joke has run on for far too long and... apparently there's something going on with an Omari on some reality television show that's causing occasional namespace collisions.  Omari asked me to change the name, so in keeping with his wishes, we are now "Crimson Flower".  I was thinking "Crimson Lily" after Sakaya from "Ojousama no Untenshu" because I've always liked that image, but that sounds like a name for a yuri-manga group, so I generalized to "flower".  My husband hates the name, but I don't care because  Crimson Flowers are PRETTY!!!!!  Feel free to send banners to inaugurate the name change! August 2013 Statistics, September 2013 Plans, and General Announcements (Attack on Titan Shoujo Spinoff)

September Plans

I'm personally making a push to complete "Kanajo ni Naru Hi".

June Statistics and July Announcements!

I went and checked the stats from Google Analytics rather than the Blogger stats, and WHOA! Our anniversary oneshot party was very successful! We had readership exceeding the height of Ouran, AnS, and J + K triple whammie!  Actually, it was our best month EVER! The "Lovely Vampire Weddings" compilation was incredibly popular.  Your voices have been heard and I enjoy stories like that, so we will be bringing you more from that publishing line starting this fall! We will also be bringing you more Nao Tsukiji starting in August. And we will now resume releasing oneshots regularly.  If I were purely looking at stats, it seems like the readers mainly want oneshots and "Magnolia". Haha! It makes me wonder whether there's any point to finishing Rex Fabula. I've already read it... sooo... sigh...  Anyhow, let's get to the June stats:

Top Visiting Countries:
  1. US (CA, NY, TX, PA, FL)
  2. Canada
  3. France
  4. Indonesia
  5. Australia

  8. Spain
  9. Singapore
  10. United Kingdom
Top 5 Sources:

Top 10 Releases:
  1. "Lovely Vampire Weddings" Story 1
  2. "Lovely Vampire Weddings" Story 2
  3. "Eikyuu Shoujo"
  4. "Lovely Vampire Weddings" Story 3

  6. "Netsugen wa Koko"
  7. "Otona no Tame Piano Lesson"

  9. "Zutto Miteita Mono Desu kara"
  10. "Shinigami no Aria"
Coming up for July!
We've got some concrete items on the schedule and some project that are being worked on in the background that might get finished in July. One of those projects in "many".  I'm quite optimistic that it will be released before the end of July.  We are also making nice progress on "LLLL".  Both of these are new short series.  We also hope for finish up "Hakamori Majo Bianca" and to take another big bite out of "Rex Fabula".  We will have a double release of "Magnolia." Chapter 32 is ready for release, but we're just waiting for it to be July already.  Also the first chapter of Akane Ogura's newest series "Kanojo ni Naru Hi" ("Becoming a Girl Day") is ready for release. Our July oneshots will be a combination of works that were not completed in time for our anniversary and three other works:

  • Jinrou Chronicle
  • Ogaku Mieru Otoko
  • Lip Smoke
  • Koi Koiegau
  • Kutsunatsuhime
It should be a packed month! Please check the release schedule for details.  We are still recruiting for the summer as we begin working on oneshots for Halloween!  So if you wanna help translate, edit images, or typeset, please drop me an e-mail and I'll get you started!

Ane Lala Update: We're Holding Off

We're gonna hold off on Ane Lala for more evaluation. Looking it over more closely, it seems like a competitor to magazines like Kiss and Kiss Plus. These magazines mainly feature stories about young ladies fresh out of college and at their first jobs. Quite honestly, there's a sameness to all these stories to me, and the main characters usually do a lot of self-indulgent whining (or the series are trying to be "Nana" clones).  So I want to take more time to evaluate the offerings in Ane Lala instead of blindly jumping in.  If there's something truly unique, then we'll go for it.  But as of now, I don't see anything truly compelling. Honestly, I would like some stories with more fantastic elements and passion. It's getting kinda hard now as most of the mainstream shoujo mags are now hardcore and singularly devoted to high school love trains. BORING.

Statistics! March at Omari's Sister! and Announcements!

First of all, I want to thank all the Omari's Sister volunteers for a successful March. We finished "Kemono Kingdom: Zoo" and the main story of "Furou Kyoudai", while managing to complete our usual monthly releases! It was an amazing month!

I'd like to welcome some new members to the Omari's Sister team:
Akire Shiro: Cleaner -- She's been working on a lot future releases, so her name will be popping up in the credit A LOT very soon.

Julia:  Cleaner/Redraw Artist -- She's been helping with the cleaning and the redrawing on the Vampire Wedding oneshot trio. She's quite skilled.

Dian and Krazy Kat: Redraw Artists -- They've been helping out here and there with various series.

Peonine: Translator -- She lives in France and has been translating short oneshots.

T, Dango-chan, A.Mere.Trifle: Proofreaders/QCers -- They were big helps on KKZoo and Furou Kyoudai

Hopefully, the new folks stick around for a spell.  If you would like to join the Omari's Sister team, we are currently actively recruiting all position. We are in urgent need of Japanese to English translators and redraw artists right now.  If you are interested, please see our recruitment webpage HERE.

Omari's Sister Store is ALWAYS OPEN now! I'll announce when I do a major stocking of new items, otherwise check back often so see what trickles in.  LINK  We need money to buy magazines and tankoubon, so buy some stuff to keep the manga flowing!

Okay, onto the stats!

Top 10 Visiting Countries:
  1. USA (CA, NY, MA, TX, PA) -- Hello PA!
  2. Canada
  3. France
  4. Germany
  5. Australia
  6. Philippines
  7. UK -- you guys have been steadily moving up the ranks. Hello, hello, to you!
  8. Indonesia
  9. Italy
  10. Malaysia
Top 5 Releases:
  1. Pochamani Chp 5
  2. Furou Kyoudai Chp 3
  3. Kemono Kingdom Zoo Chp 1 - 8
  4. Furou Kyoudai Chp 2
  5. Furou Kyoudai Chp 4

W00t! W00t! I hope you readers enjoyed Kemono Kingdom and Furou Kyoudai.  If you have not read either, please take the time to check these series out.  Kemono Kingdom is very under appreciated, but I feel like it's one of our best series.  Please at least give the first 2 or 3 chapters a chance. The quirky humor will grow on you.

April we hope to take big bite out of "Rex Fabula". Our stretch goal is to finish the series, but... I imagine it'll take at least a couple of big pushes to finish the series.

Announcements: New Projects!

Things are proceeding better than expected on our push to finish unfinished series. As such we will be able to debut three small projects next month!  We are currently working on these projects, which means they are really going to happen!  Here they are!
"Megane no Incubus" by Emiko Nakano

We've been slowly working on this one for a while. We plan to do a sequential release in March or April.

"Haikyo Shoujo" by Nao Tsukiji

This is a collection of 4 oneshots by Nao Tsukiji.  We have a couple more oneshots from Wings magazine that we will also be including in this project. Again, we have been working on these oneshots for quite some time.  The project will debut in March and the plan is release one oneshot per month and the rest in June during our anniversary oneshot party.
"Kurogane Girl" by Kokoro Natstu

This one is near and dear to my heart because it has sci-fi elements and the main female character is mechanically inclined. We are just now starting this one. Hopefully we can debut it very soon (Maybe Valentines day after Fushigi no Maria chapter 6???).

If you're wondering about "Dolci," that's still on our to-do list.  The problem is that it's josei, so there are no furigana to help read the kanji. This means this series will need more time to translate. Right now we do not have the bandwidth to do that project. When the schedule lightens up, we'll do it.

January Statists and February Plans at Omari's Sister

Here's a short summary of what happened in January at Omari's Sister.

Top 5 Releases:
  1. Pochamani Chps 1 - 3
  2. Magnolia Chp 27
  3. Ojousama no Untenshu Chp 9
  4. Magnolia Chp 28
  5. Lily Chp 5
Top 10 Visiting Countries (The mix is very that ususual -- more Europe and less Asia)
  1. USA (CA, NY, MA, TX, NJ -- Hello, New Jersey!)
  2. Canada
  3. France
  4. Germany
  5. Philippines
  6. Australia
  7. Indonesia
  8. United Kingdom
  9. Italy
  10. Spain
Last month we finished "Detarame Mousouryoku Opera" and "Ojousama no Untenshu." I extend a big thanks to Ichigo Stars and Kurohaineko for taking on and completing a ridiculous amount of stoopidly hard redraws. Thanks to them, the releases looked wonderful! This also ticks two projects off of our unfinished projects list! Hooray!!! We're making progress.

Our plans are pretty straight forward for February.  We will finish "Fushigi no Maria-kun" and complete two chapters of "Furou Kyoudai." "Magnolia" is on hiatus this month.  And lastly, we are close to releasing "Pochamani" chapter 4.

We are currently in the process of picking new projects. If all goes well with "Fushigi no Maria-kun" and "Furou Kyoudai" we will start doing oneshots again in April, but at the rate of one per month until we complete our other incomplete series. We will not start any new series until June with debuts during our 4th anniversary celebration.

December Plans, Winter Break Recruitment, and November Stats

December is going to be much sparser than I planned.  The mature josei oneshot for Bakeneko's Lair is going to 3 weeks to complete and there's the craziness of the holidays.  So expect the next chapter of Magnolia to be the only release on Omari's Sister.  If we're lucky, I might be able to eek out something else. But! Do not feel sad, because January and February will be glorious. While I'm working on the josei oneshot, the rest of the group and our temps will be lending us part of their winter breaks to work on winter releases :). There should be a lot of projects close to completion at the close of year.  And! I promise you adults out there that the josei oneshot is well worth the wait and foregoing more releases.  Yes, yes, it's a wonderful sexy, funny, romantic, and sweet fairytale.

On that note, we are recruiting. If you would like to volunteer briefly over winter break, we'd be happy to have you. We need cleaners, redraw artists, and onehot translators. Of course you are welcome to stay after the break. If you are interested, please send an e-mail to me, Kuroneko003, at omarissister@gmail.com.

Now let's look back at November. There are no surprises here. "Ore to Atashi no Kareshisama" was the most downloaded release. Onto the breakdown!

New Series will be Pushed Back

I have decided to change plans on starting new series in January.  Many of the series we are working already had definite endings,  recently came to an end or have announced that they are ending soon.  Here is the list:

  • Ojousama no Untenshu (3 chapters left)
  • Fushigi no Maria-kun (4 chapters left)
  • Detarame Mousouryoku Opera (1 chapter left)
  • Kemono Kingdom Zoo (~10 chapters left)
  • Ore to Atashi no Kareshisama (10-chapters left)
  • Rex Fabula (14-chapters left)
  • Furou Kyoudai (4-chapters left)
In combination with that, series we thought were short have been extended.  This is the case with "Pochamani" and we anticipate a continuation of "Hakamori Majo Bianca" in 2013.  We all love new series, but I think we need to finish up the series we're already working on before we take on anything new. Most of this is imposing discipline upon myself and not overworking the limited staff currently available.  We will be taking on the new series we have announced, but given the amount of work we still have, I do not anticipate starting new series until June.  At that time we will announce additional new series on top of the four we've already announced. Of course if other groups start the series we've announced, we will reconsider, although we will go forward with "Megane no Incubus-kun" regardless, because we've already done too much work on it to stop.
