Wow! We got this one in with barely any time to spare, though it's not like any of our deadlines are hard. But still, big thanks to Kiruku Naru for her lightening fingers. I didn't get all the pages to her until yesterday, so I was not expecting to be able to release this today. Hee! Also, thanks to Jade for a wonderful translation and thanks to Maki from Chinmokurev for helping us clean this one-shot!
We end our August water-themed one-shots with a bang! This is a really nice one-shot from one of Bisco Hatori's former assistants. If this one-shot has a familiar feel, now you know why.
As our proofreader Zenny pointed out, we don't often do reverse harem projects. "Ouran" was definitely a reverse harem and "Magnolia" was looking that way, though now it seems to have narrowed down to Ayato and Hugo with Nagi as the suffering third wheel. Well, here you go! This is definitely are reverse harem, though it seemed to me a few pages in, Minato and one particular guy had already paired off. Actually, if you look carefully at the title page, you can see one of the guys has already staked his claim.
This is a super-cute one-shot from the pair of mangaka who brought us "The Devil Mansion's Teacher." I wanted to release this last summer, but the summer window closed before we could get anywhere close to being done (crazy redraws). But this year, it's just in time to provide a little mental summer vacation.
If you read and/or downloaded this earlier, please re-read or re-download the latest version. We missed two pages the first time around. The two pages are now included. Sorry about that. Thanks to Steaming Bao for the head up.
Here's a very cute one-shot from Yumi Kiiro ("Library Wars"). It was included in the "Nemurenu Kishi ni Hanataba wo" one-shot compilation. This is Kotomi's debut as a translator. In the past she has been one of the folks who QCs our translations. Let's all welcome Kotomi to her expanded role at Omari's Sister! I like to thank Silver Lunar for her excellent lettering. She's definitely rose to the challenge.
There's really not much to say about this one-shot other than it's really cute and a little like "The Little Mermaid" ... but only a little. I kind of wish Kiiro-sensei had done a one-volume short series so we could see what happens Kuzui and Elina after this one-shot ends. But we'll have to leave that to our own imaginations.
Before we get to the one-shot, I need to do some advertising. We need an experienced advanced-level Japanese to English translator for "Akagami no Shirayukihime." We will be working from the tankoubon from now on, however, if the translator wishes, he or she may translate from the magazine so as not to be bombarded with multiple chapters at once. Also, the translator can work on other OS projects at their own leisure.
We are also recruiting Cleaners and Redraw Artists. Please see our recruitment page for more details.
Now onto the one-shot! You may recognize the name of the mangaka, Yuki Shiwasu. She is the same mangaka who brought us "Furou Kyoudai." This was written before "Furou Kyoudai" and the artwork look different from that series. It's quite a relief considering that most mangaka character designs look the same from series to series. Shiwasu-sensei's latest works look even better! Her art style has matured nicely. We will be bringing you more works by Yuki Shiwasu in 2013 and we're going to wrap up "Furou Kyoudai" this October.
Omari's Sister needs an experienced advanced Japanese to English translator for AnS, Aka Lala, and Shiro Lala (2012). If you are interested in volunteering, please contact me (Kuroneko003) using the contact link on the top right corner of the blog.
Some thanks first :). Thanks to Holanio for lettering her butt on this one-shot, and thanks to La Noche de los Caidos for helping us clean and redraw this one-shot. Thanks to you ladies, this one-shot looks gorgeous! Oh, and let's not forget Jade for doing a great translation!
This is probably the most typical shoujo work we've done since chapters 3 - 8 of "Pika Ichi." First a warning, if you know anything about whales, sea diving, or underwater photography, clear that knowledge from your brain now. This is a fantasy and fantastic things happen. Second, this is more like something you'd see in Ribon Special or Deluxe Betsucomi rather than from a Hakusensha magazine, so it is shallow shoujo in the purest sense. If you like this kind of shoujo already or can get you brain to that magical place you'll enjoy this one-shot a lot. Everyone else, please admire the pretty pictures. But all is forgiven since it's a debut work, though, I see after this one-shot, Asano's not done anything since and that was 3 years ago. Yikes...Haha! But I really do like the whale and nature drawings in this one-shot and that's the main reason I chose this one-shot. It's a rare work in which the artwork is enough for me despite the story. Hopefully this mangaka is happily assisting another mangaka and will one day give her own manga a try again.

Updated 8/16/2012: Please re-download the new version of the one-shot. We fixed a glaring spelling error and refined the translation in a couple of places. None of the translation changes impact the story, but for the sake of correctness, I recommend getting the latest version. Sorry for the boo-boos, but when they are pointed out, we always go back and fix them. (Many thanks to Zenny for her input.) ---------------------------------
I really like this one-shot. Both the art and the story are lovely and I love the main male character Oohashi. This is the kind of one-shot I thought (or hoped) would be in Aoi Lala, but it seems the editors at Hakusensha had something else in mind. So I've taken the liberty of selecting "blue" one-shots to replace the anticipated Aoi Lala materials.
I think a lot of readers will be able to relate to this story as many of us are at crossroads where we have to decided what we want to do in the future. Some of us are close to graduating from high school or college and others of us are in between careers (like me). I think we all come to a point where we have to ask whether what we like to do will put food in our bellies vs. living a life without passion for what we end up doing. The only answer I have to this dilemma is if you can't do what you like, then try your best to like what you're doing -- or at least do something you like with the money you earn.
I think a little cultural difference comes into play here between the US and Japan. Nowadays teens do extracurricular activities to make themselves appear well-rounded to colleges and universities. It's academics AND extracurricular activities and not academics OR something considered extracurricular. Regardless, I think what Aoi goes through in this story is universal and the story shows how wonderful it is when you meet someone who supports you and your dream.
I sincerely apologize for the slow pace at which we are releasing this series. Hopefully we'll be able to release chapters 4 and 5 before the end of the year. We're really working hard now on finishing our shorter series and on the one-shots that have been stewing on my desk for months. Regardless, the group loves this series, so sooner or later we'll accelerate the series and catch up (along with Rex Fabula and Ore to Atashi no Kareshi-sama).
Anyhow...we get more information about the new cackling Servamp that showed up at the end of chapter 2. He's kind of a sad fellow, but I have the felling Mahiru will eventually win him over.
Oh Nagi, what evil pills has Vincent given to you?! No don't take them!!! Nagi!!!
This is a very short chapter and most of it is flashback. It seems that Naked Ape is going to get the most out of Queen Angela's letter. But I understand...they're busy. They've got two series running in Zero-Sum magazine and private works they offer through their own website.
It's time to say "goodbye" to our Cherry Blossom Hero. Yep, this is the last chapter of "Seigi no Mikata!" I wonder if we'll see more of Mikata and S in the future. The ending felt more like the end of a pre-quel than the end of a series. Oh well, still it was a fun series to translate. I won't miss the typesetting though.
In this final chapter we are introduced to some of the other heroes in neighboring communities and a mysterious new "hero" shows up. Heheh...ooh, yeah, it's beyond corny. I so wanted Lily to be a woman. That would have been too funny!
A few translation notes:
To make it easier, I translated the other heroes' wards to their base flower names in English. I thought it would cleaner than having a bunch of translation notes on the pages as they were introduced.
At the end, there's a bad pun because phonetically in Japanese the same sounding words can either mean getting hired onto a job or becoming a man's wife. We don't really have a single word like that in English, but I did my best to get that pun through in English without resorting to crudely saying, "from now on you're my bitch."
Here are some statistics from July. We passed the 3 million views mark! That was pretty cool. Readership has dropped somewhat with the absence of "Akagami no Shirayukihime." It doesn't impact what we do, but it's interesting see what people come to the blog for and what people often check for on the blog. Most of those views lasted less than a second. To be honest, I kinda enjoyed not having the AnS hanging over my shoulder for the last two months.
We didn't have as many releases as we had hoped in July. "Detarame Mousouryoku Opera" killed the first 10 days of the month for me and Ichi. I've started on the last chapter, but I was so mad at how much time it chewed up that I've put it aside until can forgive the series and finish it.
Okay, onto the stats!

Only one more chapter to go! This chapter deals with Kotarou's family and centers mainly around his youngest brother Takuma. Kotarou's family is pretty funny and Mitsubachi-sensei did a great job developing each child's personalities despite the few pages available for this part of the story.
I finally figured out what Sakuraiya's speech is supposed to be. In the previous two chapters I did a very literal translation because I didn't know what to make of the speech and I considered the possibility that it could be pure nonsense. Out of nowhere I remembered having plum trees in my parent's backyard when I was little. You have to prune plum trees hard every year to keep them happy and producing. It was definitely an ah-ha moment. It didn't help that in Japanese the same word for the fruit and the flowers is the same as for the trees...grr...Anyhow, I will go back and update the first two chapters.
We are working towards our Halloween and Christmas one-shot parties. The Christmas one-shot theme will be "fairy tales." Here's list of the volunteers we currently need as we work on these projects:
Translator -- We need an experienced advanced level Japanese-to-English
Translator to take over the translation of one of our very popular series (you find out which one when you inquire) and
to work on one-shots.
Translation QC -- Mid level Japanese knowledge is fine,
though advanced level is preferred. I need folks to check the
translations to make sure they are accurate.
Redraw Artist/Image Editors -- I need a couple of experienced
redraw artists to work on one-shots and our series
No experience is needed for cleaners. If you already have knowledge of Photoshop
I (Kuroneko003) am willing to train you. If you are interested in
volunteering for Omari's Sister, please send me an e-mail via the
"Contact" link at the top of this blog.
I do not provide raw manga. If you e-mail me asking for a raw, you will get a reply telling you to buy the raw from Amazon JP or Yes Asia. So please save yourself and me some time and support your favorite mangaka by purchasing your own raws for your group.
